The Facilities

The Facilities at Duffys

The centre provides a wide range of facilities for both livery owners and competitors for shows. The centre itself is only 9km from Galway city centre, just off the N17, northbound. We provide both full and D.I.Y. livery for both horses and ponies. Lessons are only available for riders who have their horse/pony as we don't run a riding school or horse hire at the centre.

The centre comprises of 2 stable yards, 2 all-weather sand arenas, grass arena, an indoor school with upstairs gallery area, 4 turnout paddocks and ample parking. We are home to Corrib Riding Club and John Hawkshaw's Tackup tack shop. Shows are run by the centre all year round, from the 2 day Grand Prix show to classes for newcomers to help our riders of the future get started. Most are registered and affiliated with the SJI with the except of the Wednesday night winter league.

The venue is also used other organisations, for pony measuring, riding club shows, agricultural shows and dressage. Full details of the shows can be found here and if you are interested in venue hire, there is more information here.

The Stables

The main top yard

The stables are divided behind two yards, the top yard stable Mark's showjumping horses with some livery stabled there and the lower yard is connected to the indoor arena. As the stables were built at different stages over the years, there are lots of sections and which seems to suit even nervous horses and youngsters as the horses and ponies always settle in very quickly when they first come to the yard.

The Arenas

We have 2 all weather sand arenas and 1 grass arena for our outdoor shows. The smaller sand arena is used as a warm-up and the large main arena where the majority of the shows take place. The grass arena is used less often due to the Irish weather, even in summer but we have held derbys which always are very popular with a mix of fences in the sand and cross country style on the grass, including a small bank.

For those wet or dark evenings, the indoor arena is available with floodlights for late exercising of your horse or pony or those days when you wouldn't put anything out in it.

The arenas are always available for liveries to use except if there is an event on when there is the choice of a hack or some time out in the paddock for your horse or pony.

The Indoor Arena & Gallery

The Gallery

As mentioned, there is an indoor arena for schooling but the building also holds the gallery area and toilet & changing facilities downstairs. The indoor has been used for more than just riding in, the riding club and held there indoor car boot sale as a fundraiser and the Claregalway agricultural show have their tables set up in the indoor for all their non-animal linked classes.

The Winter league takes place on Wednesday night from around October to Christmas and then January to March with the mini, midi and maxi jumping which is all good fun and a way to get your pony or horse exercised during the week with those dark evenings.

Turnout Paddocks

Every horse or pony loves a good roll but when they are stabled this is limited. It is good for them physically and mentally to spend some time in their natural environment, it stretches out their neck and back muscles, and helps them to relax. That is why we have 3 paddocks available for liveries to use, one for Mark's horses and liveries.

All the livery owners in the yard are very sociable and organise between them to put out and take in one another's horses and ponies so they all get out. All you need to do is ask someone.
